Removing and replacing the 21-bar chord bar cover is relatively simple, but it can be rather daunting the first time you do it because all of the parts are loose fitting and easily fall out of place.
The cover itself is held in place by four screws, two on each end, near its bottom edges. The screw holes in the cover need to line up with holes in angle brackets which are held in place by the screws which hold the chord bar holders in place. Usually you will not have much difficulty, because the parts were reasonably well lined up before you took them apart. Occasionally one will encounter some difficulty getting the screws to align properly in reassembly, but since every part involved is moveable, a little thought will allow you to get it to work.
When removing the cover, the buttons will tend to stick to the noise muffling foam on the underside of the cover, and therefore come up with the cover and then fall all over the place. To avoid this, use the palm of one hand to push down on the buttons as you raise one end of the cover with the other hand. This way, with a little care, you can make most of the buttons remain in place as you remove the cover. If some of the buttons fall out of place and you are not sure where they belong, refer to the chord bar order in the section on chord bar conversion kit installation (section 3.3).
When you are ready to replace the cover, first make sure that the buttons are
lined up approximately in their correct locations. It is not necessary for
them to be exact. Because they slide easily, you can use the blade of a
screwdriver or any other tool to gently slide the buttons back and forth as you
slowly fit the cover over them. The first time you do this it will seem a bit
difficult, but the only thing required is patience and a bit of care.
