3/16/08--3rd Grader wins State
K-3 AND Jr High Championship
Michael Chen from St. Joseph won the K-3 championship on Saturday 3/15, and
came back and won the K-8 championship on Sunday 3/16. Apurva Virkud
from Troy finished 2nd in the K-8 championship after finishing 3rd in the K-5
championship a day earlier. The K-5 champion, Kyle Webster from Ann
Arbor, and 2nd place finisher Epiphany Peters of Grand Rapids, did not compete
on Sunday. And Evan Hawver of Ann Arbor finished 4th
in the K-5 Championship and 5th in the K-8 championship, leaving only 2 places
in the top 5 for actual Jr High students!!
The top local finisher was Ivan Keener of Lansing Cavanaugh Elementary who tied
for 1st place in the K-5 Reserve section with Jordan Candie.

And in another upset, 6th grader Atulty Shetty from Ann Arbor defeated 10th grader James Canty III from Detroit in the finals of the High School
Championship.

Team Tournament.
The 2008 State Jr. High Team Tournament was held Saturday Feb. 16, 2008 at
Eastern Michigan University.

2/2/08--Ann Arbor dominates State Elementary
Team Tournament.
The 2008 State Elementary Team Tournament was held Saturday Feb. 2, 2008 at
Michigan State University. The K-3 Section was won by Ann Arbor Thurston
Elementary, and the K-5 was won by Ann Arbor MLK Elementary. The K-6
Championship was won by Novi Meadows. The K-5 Reserve Section had co-champions
