On a balmy tropical morning on May 8, 1942 in the tranquil waters of the
Beautiful Coral Sea, 1300 men aboard the U.S.S. Lexington CV2 prepared for
battle against the Japanese Navy. - A battle which for many would be their last.
The Battle of the Coral Sea, as it has come to be known was one of America's
greatest Naval victories of World War II, perhaps of all time..
This battle, however was not without casualties. Many men gave their lives
defending their comrades, their ship, their Nation.
The fierce fighting was over, and the gallant Lady was ablaze with
uncontrollable fire. All live souls plummeted into the Sea - now raging with
turmoil. Survivors watched with weary eyes as the Lady Lex sank beneath the
dark waters, in all her fiery glory.
Now, she rests, ever silent in her bed of sand at the sea bottom - a never failing
monument to the Casualties and Survivors of the
BATTLE OF THE CORAL SEA
