DSL Setup - Computer
The following articles contain detailed instructions for setting up a computer to function on an ACD.net DSL connection. They are for users with a single computer (for users with multiple computers that will be using the DSL connection please see the Security Concerns section).
The first thing to keep in mind is that by default all Windows computers are already configured for a connection such as DSL. The steps in these articles are primarily provided in case you A) have (or had) your computer already configured to be on a local area network of some kind or B) would just like to ensure your settings are as they should be (handy for people who were given a computer from school/work/a friend).
If you don't know what operating system version you are running, perform the following steps:
On a Windows computer:
- Click on Start.
- Click on Run or Run Program.
- In the Open box, type winver.
- Click OK or hit Enter.
- A box will come up telling you what version of Windows you are running. Click OK to close this window.
On a Macintosh computer:
- Click on the Apple icon.
- Select About This Computer or About This Mac
- The version of Mac OS you are running should be displayed
