Dialup Errors
In a perfect world we can dial into the internet every time at the same speed and stay online forever. This world also has rainbows all the time, and the sun is always shining, and there are rivers of butterscotch and chocolate.
We do not live in that world. We live in the real world. There are many things that can go wrong with a dialup connection. This page will try to address the most common issues that dialup users have. Windows errors generally have an error number associated with them.
- Error 602/Error 633: Port is already in use or being accessed by another application
- Error 619/Error 629: The port was disconnected by the remote machine
- Error 628/Error 678: There is no answer/The computer you are dialing into is not answering
- Error 630/Error 692: The modem is not responding/The computer is not receiving a response from the modem/Hardware failure in port or attached device
- Error 645: Dial-up Networking could not complete the connection to the server
- Error 650: The remote server is not responding
- Error 676: The line is busy
- Error 680: There is no dial tone
- Error 691/Error 635/Error 718: The computer you are dialing into cannot establish a Dial-up Networking connection/There was an unknown error/Timed out while waiting for a valid response from the remote PPP peer
- Error 720: Dial-up networking could not negotiate a compatible set of network protocols you specified in the Server Type settings. Check your network configuration in the Control Panel, then try the connection again
- Error 745: An essential file is missing
