DOLLAR A SECOND

(Lowell 1956) [Jan Murray on cover]

CONTENTS:
Envelopes, props for a variety of stunts, play money and a nifty glass sand timer.  The game also comes with a booklet of 56 games, stunts, penalties and events (not pictured).

GAME PLAY:
Players try to keep performing a game or stunt for as long as possible, earning a dollar a second.  Once a mistake is made, the player must perform a penalty, chosing between one of five options.  If the player makes the unlucky choice (1 in 5 chance), the game ends with the player keeping her money.  Otherwise, the player goes back to the original game.  Meanwhile, an outside event is being performed by another person.  If the outside event is completed while the first player is still playing, then that player loses everything and the money goes to the player who completed the outside event.  Got it?

HOW ABOUT SOME EXAMPLES?
Yeah, you'd probably like that, wouldn't you?  As it turns out, the copy we have is missing its game booklet.  We have no idea what games and stunts are supposed to be performed.  Kinda embarassing for us, actually.

DIFFERENCES TO TV SHOW:
On the show, the outside event ended the game, but there wasn't an outside contestant who won the money.

COMMENTS:
The game is essentially a more elaborate version of Beat the Clock, a game of similar vintage with a similar set of props included.  The instructions make a point of saying that some of the stunts and games require you to provide additional props on your own, which on the surface seems a little cheap.  An oddity in the rules:  The one bad choice in the penalty phase is referred to as "unlucky", but hitting it is actually the only way to earn any money since the outside event has to be accomplished eventually and there's no other way to end the game.
